Recumbent Trike Rear Kit — 26" (Class 3, 48V)

A recumbent trike is one of the best vehicles there is to electrify, and the Grin All-Axle rear hub is the motor to do it with. Trikes are aerodynamic but heavy, so you spend a lot of energy braking, especially on descents, and a direct-drive hub turns that braking back into range instead of heat.

• Braking where your trike has none: most tadpole trikes brake on the two front wheels only, with nothing on the rear. A Grin rear hub adds controlled regenerative braking at the rear wheel, backing up your front brakes and feeding charge into the battery at the same time.
• Torque-sensing assist: the rear All-Axle has a built-in torque-sensing freehub, so the motor responds to how hard you pedal, for smooth proportional power.
• Reverse, backpedal and hill control: the motor can run in reverse for backing out of tight spots, our team can set your backpedal to trigger either regen or reverse, whichever you prefer, and a configurable max speed can hold a steady pace on long descents to save your pads and recover energy.
• No drivetrain wear: a hub motor drives the wheel directly, so none of its power runs through your chain and cassette, unlike a mid-drive.
• Weight in the right place: the motor sits at the rear wheel, adding traction and balance under hard braking and cornering, rather than out at the end of the boom like a mid-drive.
• Fits almost any trike: the All-Axle works with common trike dropouts and widths, including standard 10mm dropouts and 12mm and 15mm thru axles, and it is one of the lightest direct-drive motors in its class.

From one of our staff riders: around 20% of their energy comes back from regen on a typical commute, and they haven't replaced a brake pad in over 8,000 km. Your results depend on your route and riding style, but a recumbent trike plus regen is hard to beat for efficiency.
